Halo 4 Helm Redesign C.I.O. by Guyver89 Halo 4 Helm Redesign C.I.O. by Guyver89
The first of many critiques of Halo 4’s dresser of armors. The first being the C.I.O. helmet. More notably the helmet with 3 circle eyes. I like the design in general but the over abundance of visorless helmets urked me the wrong way to many times.

This helmet is hiding so much potential in my opinion to be an awesome helmet. But the designers 343i hired (no offense to them) were going gung ho crazy with helmets that had no home in Halo. The big ones being Aviator and Ranger for me. If only they had kept Isaac Hannaford on board for the concept art of Halo 4.

C.I.O. is the one helmet I have the least amount of qualms about only that it was another “Flash light eyes” helmet that was trying to ride off the popularity of Halo Reach’s GUNGNIR.

Up next - Aviator Helmet.

Hmm. It does look good like this, but it's been theorized that CIO was supposed to be reference to Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell, especially considering it stands for Counter-Intelligence Operations.

Oh hell yes that looks much better.

I feel halo 4 armor overall is lackluster. Not in that most are bad designs, but I think MJOLNIR is an armor type that is supposed to have some bulk. Halo 4 armors simply do not provide the feeling of bulk (To quote somebody else, it looks more like some armor plates over a bodysuit instead of power armor).

The helms also bug me. Molded visors to look like faces? Half the visors are just plain weird (Wetwork being one, Pioneer another. I have grown to accept wetwork but Pioneer... what the hell where they thinking with that armor?) and then you have the visorless ones/lights for visors (Venator, CIO, I think vanguard?) Venator looks decent, CIO would look okay if you could change the 'color' of the lights. IIRC, Vanguard is literally a square on the front. Reminds me more of a button then a visor.

Gungnir was a cool helm (IMO!), but in halo 4 is just looks happy instead of well, armored like in Reach.

Well, that's exactly what Gen. 2 MJOLNIR is, the form-fitting undersuit is now the foundation for the rest of the armor, that's how we can have entirely different models of leg, torso and forearm plating. That's why it's lighter, allows greater dexterity, and the wearer can don it faster.

when they DO have bulk, it's in the wrong places.
At least they're bringing back Mk V, the original bulky yet slender Power armor, in August.

The best H4 armour is the ODST permutation, having, as it does, the look of actually being constructed according to a semi-rational plan for protecting a human body, rather than a random assortment of exotic angles and curves slapped together any which way the artist fancied, as seems to be the case with so much Halo armour, UNSC, Covenant or otherwise.

I agree with you abouthow the helmets do not feel like they belong in Halo. The shapes of the helmets is one thing that bug me. The Ranger helmet looks like a bucketed helmet that came from Castle Crashers.

Looks good man!

I can't wait to see more redesigns!

I admit aviator doesn't look high tech enough. I like venator, it pulled off the lights well. Oceanic can go to hell.

Halo 4's armor is good looking, but lacks a few classics that I'm very angry about... 1 in particular.

Mjolnir Mk V
